Builders Defeat Gators on Senior Day

Builders Defeat Gators on Senior Day

IN BRIEF: The Builders played their final game of the regular season and defeated Thomas Nelson by a score of 12 to 1. The season is far from over as the Small College World Series is looming, the Builders will play on Monday, May 13th at 4:00 PM in Dubois, Pennsylvania.

It was Senior Day at War Memorial Stadium and the Builders honored their seniors. This group of senior has a combined 114 wins across a four year span. Thomas Nelson would get things started with a run in the top of the 1st, but that is all that the Gators would muster in this game. Brian Fritzinger would get the start, but Luke Schanback picked up the win in relief. Paul Jones, Tyler Winegrad, Clay O'Brien and Thomas Packert all helped to shut down the Gators through the final 8 innings.

The Builders used a 6 run 4th inning to pull away in this one. With the bases loaded, Gevin Nixon laced a ball that was misplayed by the center fielder. The ball rolled all the way to the fence and three runs came around to score. Cody Hendrickson finished a triple shy of the cycle, but laced a double in the 4th that scored Gevin Nixon. Brent Byrum would drive in a run on a groundout to short, and Thomas Packert would drive in a run on a sac fly to left.

The Builders recognized each senior with an in game substitution. Each senior had a special moment where they were removed from the game and the crowd was able to cheer for the seniors. It has been an incredible regular season, but there is still work to be done. The Builders will be in Dubois, Pennsylvania next week on their quest for another USCAA National Championship.
