Builders Defeat Selma at USCAA National Tournament

IN BRIEF: It was a cold and wet day in DuBois, Pennsylvania but the Builders and Bulldogs found a way to get their game in. Selma defeated Penn State Mont Alto this morning in a play in game. The top seeded Builders took care of business and defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 11 to 1.

Senior Paul Jones took the mound for the Builders and turned in a complete game in which he gave up 1 run and struck out 7 across 6 innings. The Builders would  get things started early when Maxwell Burcham's single to right scored Lou Picolo. Gevin Nixon would then score on a fielder's choice and the Builders led 2 to 0 after the first. Jones made quick work of the Bulldogs in the top of the 2nd and the Builders offense was ready to go agaoin. With the bases loaded, Lou Picolo laced a line drive to right center that would score 2 and extend the lead to 4 to 0. A couple of hit by pitches, an error and a sac fly from Thomas Packert would give the Builders a commanding 8 to 0 lead after 2 innings of play.

The Bulldogs began to threaten in the fourth after a solo homerun but Jones shut down the rally with a double play. Thomas Packert collected another RBI in the 4th on a sac fly. The Builders scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th as a result of walks and the ten run rule came into effect. The Builders got the job done today with a great first round win. Paul Jones improved to 9-0 on the season with today's win. Jones' complete game sets the Builders pitching staff up for the remainder of the Small College World Series.
