Baseball Postseason Awards Announced

The Builders had four players recognized this season by the USCAA. Brent Byrum, Paul Jones and Cody Hendrickson were all named 1st Team All-Americans. Thomas Packert was named a 2nd Team All-American. 

Thomas Packert and Paul Jones were both named to the VaSID All State 2nd Team this past week. The honor is well deserved and the two Builders are up there with a number of athletes from 11 different schools across the Commonwealth. Christopher Newport led the way with 10 different All State selections. This team is voted on by Sports Information Directors all across the state. 

Packert was named 2nd Team VaSID Shortstop, 2nd Team VaSID Relief Pitcher, and 2nd Team USCAA All American. Packert finished the year with a .371 Batting Average with 37 RBIs and 7 Homeruns. On the mound, Packert finished with 19.1 Innings Pitched, a 0.00 ERA, and 7 Saves. In a doubleheader sweep on March 30th, Packert hit 3 Homeruns against Bryant & Stratton Albany. 

Jones was named 2nd Team VaSID Starting Pitcher and 1st Team USCAA All American. Jones finished the year with a 9-1 record and a 2.56 ERA. His best game came on March 20th against Maine Presque Isle. The Senior struck out 13 batters and pitched a complete game no-hitter. Jones finishes his career with 17 wins and 165 strikeouts. 

Hendrickson was named a 1st Team USCAA All American. Cody finished the season with a .366 batting average. He compiled 52 hits and 48 RBIs. Hendrickson's best game of the season came on March 20th against Maine-Presque Isle. The Senior from Yorktown went 5 for 5 with 6 RBIs. 

Brent Byrum was named a 1st Team USCAA All American. Byrum finished the year with a .379 batting average. He compiled 55 hits and 42 RBIs. Byrum's best game of the season came on April 10th against Stratford University. Byrum collected 3 hits in the game and drove in 4 runs. 

Overall the Builders had a season for the records. The team finished with an overall record of 33-9. The highlight of the season came when the Builders won a remarkable 20 games in a row, holding the #1 ranking in the USCAA for the entire season. Head Coach Bryan Cave surpassed 700 Career Wins and is looking to add many more next year. Congrats to the Builders on a great season and congrats to these individual Builders for their success on the diamond.
