Builders Take 3 of 4 on Opening Weekend

IN BRIEF: The Builders took 3 out of 4 this weekend to start the year at 3-1. Saturday the Builders defeated Thomas Nelson by a score of 8 to 2 and Paul D Camp by a score of 7 to 2. Today the Builders defeatd Thomas Nelson by a score of 15 to 1 and dropped their final game to Paul D Camp by a score of 1-0. A solid start to the season for the Builders.

Saturday, February 8th

GAME 1: Brent Byrum's three run homer gave the Builders the edge and William Capps and Hunter Haden combined to give up two runs as the Builders took the Opening Day victory. Braden Lambert went 3 for 3 in this game, and James Williams collected 2 RBIs as the Builders easily handled the Gators of Thomas Nelson. Capps gave up 1 hit across 4 innings of work and struck out 5 batters. 

GAME 2: Tyler Winegrad took the mound for the Builders in their second game on the day. Winegrad pitched 4 solid innings, giving up 2 runs and striking out 5 batters. Taylor Hampton threw two scoreless innings in relief, and Thomas Packert added a scoreless 7th to close out the 8 to 2 victory. James Williams continued his solid day by going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs in this contest. 

Sunday, February 9th

GAME 3: After falling behind early, the Builders rallied quickly and defeat the Gators for the second time in as many days. James Williams continued his hot start to the season by going 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs as the Builders won this game by a score of 15 to 1. Tyler Knapp picked up his first win of the season, giving up 1 hit across 4 innings of work. Luke Wells, Alec Wonders, and Dylan Dye all threw scoreless innings in relief. Holden Sandridge went deep for a two run homerun, his first of the season. 

GAME 4: The Builders saw their bats go cold as they couldn't get to the Hurricanes starter. Paul D Camp took this game by a score of 1 to 0. Jake Day collected the only hit for the Builders, while Clay O'Brien and Andrew Castine turned in stellar performances on the mound. O'Brien gave up 1 run across 4 innings to take the loss. Castine threw three scoreless innings in relief. The two combined for 8 strikeouts.
