Builder Baseball Defeat Mustangs in Mid-week Two Game Series

 

 GAME 1

IN BRIEF:

On a foggy Wednesday afternoon, the Builders hosted conference opponent, Mid-Atlantic Christian University for a mid-week matchup. Tyler Winegrad took the mound for the Builders and pitched a shutout, only allowing 3 hits. With the game off to a quiet start, the Builders broke open in the 3rd inning, driving in 6 runs to take a strong 6-0 lead over the Mustangs. The Builders added to their lead in the 4th inning with a SAC fly by Thomas Packert and sealed the deal in the 5th inning by adding 4 more runs to the board.

In the 3rd inning with Lou Picolo and James Williams on base by walks, Thomas Packert hit a base clearing double to get the fire started. Brent Byrum singled, advancing to second base on the throw to home which would not be in time for Packert to score. A few plays later with Mitch Grawey on base, Gevin Nixon hit a double to drive in Grawey followed by an RBI single by  Jake Day. The inning would end with 6 runs, 4 hits and 0 errors. In the 4th inning, Maxwell Burcham would score off of a SAC Fly by Packert. The scoring didn't end there as the Builders would add 4 more to their lead, with an RBI single by Day and Picolo, an RBI double by Burcham and another RBI single by Thomas Packert. The 6th and 7th innings were quick and the Builders would end the first game of the day dominating the mustangs, 11-0 with 14 hits and 0 errors.

GAME 2

IN BREIF:

The Builders would have to fight harder in the second matchup to eventually take the win over the Mustangs, 6-5.

The Builders struggled to focus in the first inning with 2 errors, allowing 3 runs to score. But they did not accept defeat and came back strong in the bottom on the first scoring, 4 runs. James Williams got the ball rolling with a single followed by a walk for Max Burcham. With the go ahead run on second base, Thomas Packert started out his 4 for 4 day with a single. An error by the catcher would allow Williams to score, advancing Burcham to third base and Packert to second base. Next up, Brent Byrum would have a huge RBI single driving in two more runs. The inning would end with one more run added to the board by an error on the short stop, scoring Byrum. The Mustangs added two more runs in the top of 3rd inning to take the lead, but with Packert on second, Byrum would tie the score with another RBI single. With 1 out in the bottom of the 5th inning, Jared Mason was walked and Gevin Nixon was hit by a pitch with Holden Sandridge on deck. Sandridge had a clutch RBI single to take the lead back over the Mustangs. The Builders would bring Thomas Packert to the mound in the 6th inning to close the game. The Mustangs had two on base in the top of the 6th inning, but Packert had 3 huge strikeouts back to back to get out of the inning run free. In the top of the 7th inning, with the Mustangs go ahead run on second base, Packert added another strike out under his belt. The Mustangs made it interesting by stealing third with only one out on the inning, Packert walked one more batter before adding yet another clutch strike out. The game ended on an unassisted ground out to Packert, for a 6-5 win over the Mustangs.
