Apprentice falls by one run to Southern Virginia, 9-8

Buena Vista, VA – The Apprentice Baseball team welcomed Southern Virginia to Historic War Memorial Stadium on Wednesday for a non-conference match-up.  The two teams last met on April 5th, with the Builders coming away with the win, 11-7.  After defeating MACU yesterday, Apprentice, ranked #5 in the USCAA National Poll, were still trying to stay in contention for this year's Small College World Series.  However, they knew they, once again, had to get by the Trojans, who are an NCAA DIII and USA South member.

After falling behind 4-0 in the 4th inning, the Builder's bats came alive, allowing them to eventually take the lead, 7-6.  Unfortunately, the Trojans would score 3 runs to take the 9-7 advantage in the 9th inning putting the pressure on Apprentice to stage a last inning comeback.  They were able get one back, but could not tie the game, and would fall by a final score of 9-8.

Thomas Packert led the Builders, going 3-5 with 2 RBIs, while Maxwell Burcham finished the game 2-4, with 1 RBI and two runs.  Braden Lambert would also drive home two runs after a double to the outfield.  Apprentice will return to action next Tuesday, April 26th when they travel to Elizabeth City, NC for a rematch with Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
