HAMPTON - The Apprentice School baseball team grinded out a pair of victories over Southern Virginia, winning 4-1 and 2-1, the latter on a walkoff single Tuesday afternoon.

The Builders struck first in the opening game, using a Nate Yeary RBI groundout in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. After the Knights answered in the top of the fifth, Isaac McCallister and Camden Weston hit back-to-back triples to retake the lead at 2-1. Nolan Edwards then had a RBI double before scoring on a Southern Virginia error to get to the final score.

Nick Redman improved to 4-0 on the year, going 5.2 innings before Logan Mize tallied his third save on the year in relief.

In the second game, SVU got to the scoreboard in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead, but the Builders tied it up on a Caleb Russell sacrifice fly in the third. The game ended in the seventh when Weston lined a ball through the left side with the bases loaded to walk it off.

Bryce Post got the win, throwing three innings of relief.

The Builders will now hit the road for six games in Myrtle Beach starting Thursday.
