Baseball Sweeps St. Vincent in 8-6 Sunday Finale

HAMPTON - The Apprentice School baseball team finished off a series sweep of St. Vincent Sunday, holding on to win the finale, 8-6.

The Builders struck first, using a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Harmon in the first to take the early 1-0 lead. After the Bearcats tied it up in the third, Apprentice's offense exploded in the bottom of the inning, going for five runs in the frame off a pair of bases loaded walks and two RBI singles from Nolan Edwards and Camden Weston to stretch the lead to 6-1.

AS scored again in the fifth inning, plating a pair on a Caleb Russell RBI base knock, but then the offense slowed down as the Bearcats clawed back in to the game.

The Builder pitching staff worked through some tight positions in order to hold on to the game and finish the sweep.

Tyler Winegrad (1-1) got the win, while Logan Mize earned his fifth save of the season. Apprentice is now 21-5, just five wins away from matching last year's total.

The Builders will open New South Athletic Conference play Tuesday against Mid-Atlantic Christian at War Memorial Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
