Baseball Races Past Hurricanes in Seven, 21-6

HAMPTON - The Apprentice School baseball team took some frustration out on Paul D. Camp Wednesday, putting up 21 runs in a 21-6 beatdown of the Hurricanes.

The Builders put up five runs in the first, sending every batter to the plate, before doing the same thing again in the second, but plating 11 runs to take a 16-0 lead through two complete.

After the Hurricanes pushed a run across in the third off a balk, Apprentice scored two more in the bottom of the frame to push the lead to 18-1. The Builders got another run in the fifth on a Camden Weston solo homer before Camp got back on the board with four in the sixth to cut the lead to 19-5. AS got two in the bottom of the sixth to finish off the offensive output.

Hunter Johnson finished the day 4-for-5 at the plate with six RBI, tying him for sixth in the record book for RBI in a single game. Weston was 3-for-4, while Riggs Ellis, Caleb Russell, Matt Phoebus and Braxton Wallace each had multi-hit games as well.

Nick Redman (7-1) got the win, fanning 10 across five innings of work.

The Builders will next battle MACU on the road Tuesday.
