On Friday, the 2010-11 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association Academic All-State team was announced and the Apprentice School had six student-athletes recognized among the 30 schools and 180 athletes.

Each school was allowed to nominate six deserving student-athletes who were at least a sophomore and had a minimum of a 3.2 grade point average for the honor.  The team includes all levels of college athletics in Virginia.

The six representatives from the Apprentice School were:

Andrew Balarabe, Football, Sr., Laurel, Md., Welder

A four-year defensive lineman/linebackerwho was named to the second team All-ACFC in his senior season.  He was a key component on the defensive front in his final two years.  Balarabe had 29 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, two sacks in his senior season and ended his career with 85 total tackles, 15 for a loss and six sacks. 

Ashley Johnson, Women's Basketball, Jr., Alamogordo, N.M., Outside Machinist

The junior shooting guard averaged seven points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals per game while hitting 17 3-pointers on the season. She scored a season-high 16 points, hitting a season best four 3-pointers in the opening game of the USCAA Nationals against Penn State Beaver.  She hauled in a season high eight rebounds at Briarcliffe and dished out five assists at Bennett College.

Nick Foor, Football, So., Huntingtown, Md., Shipfitter

Served as the kicker and punter on the football team as a sophomore where he hit a 37-yard field goal for the decisive points in a home win against Greensboro College.  He was 12-of-15 on extra-points and averaged 33 yards per punt on the year. 

Stuart Roes, Wrestling, So., Staunton, Va., Machinist

Roes is a two-time NCWA National Qualifier who won the 197-pound bracket at the Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships as a freshman.  He had a five-match winning streak during February that helped propel him into the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Champion honors at 197 pounds. 

Andrew Yonta, Baseball, Sr., Midlothian, Va., Welding Equip. Repair

Yonta had a solid senior season for the baseball team where he topped the team in RBIs with 34 and was second on the team in walks with 22.  He drove in a career-best six runs against Fulton-Montgomery and reached base in 16 straight games at one point of the year. 

Daniel Campbell, Golf, Sr., Stuarts Draft, Va., Millwright

Campbell finished his senior season on the golf team with an 82 stroke average that included five top-five finishes on the season.  He holds the school record for most rounds played in a career (81) and is ninth on the career scoring average list with an 83.9. Shot a career low 69 at The Woodlands in September.
