IN BRIEF:  Sophomore Joseph Hodge ran for a career-high 139 yards, while freshman quarterback Deon Lavender threw for 163 and a touchdown as the Apprentice School lost a tough 31-24 decision to Catholic University on Saturday.


ON THE FIELD

• The Builders got on the scoreboard as Joseph Hodge broke through the line and took off on a 78-yard touchdown run.  Austin Wall converted the extra-point for a 7-0 Builder lead with 4:43 left in the first quarter.
• Catholic responded with a seven-play, 68-yard drive as TJ Tutone scored on a 15-yard touchdown run off a quarterback draw to tie the game with 2:40 left.
• Early in the second quarter, Catholic nailed a 28-yard field goal from Peter Rosa to lead 10-7 just seven seconds into the quarter.
• A 29-yard touchdown run from Matt Perno finished off a seven-play, 87-yard drive for the hosts as they held a 17-7 lead with 9:31 left.
• The Cardinals struck first in the third quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass from TJ Tutone to Lucas Morley to lead 24-7 with 12:04 left in the third.
• Apprentice School responded with a drive that ended with Austin Wall connecting on a 29-yard field goal with 5:28 left to bring the Builders to 24-10.
• Tutone and Morley found each other again as Catholic scored on another TD pass of five-yards to lead 31-10 with 2:01 left in the third.
• The Builders closed the third quarter with a 65-yard scoring pass from Deon Lavender to Tylee Smith who out-raced three defensive backs to the end zone.  Wall's extra-point conversion brought the Builders to 31-17 with 26 seconds left in the third.
• In the fourth, Brandon Jordan finished a 41-yard scoring drive with a six-yard run to cut the deficit to 31-24 with 4:36 left.
• The Builders had one last drive with a couple completions from Lavender to Trevon Johnson and Derek Banks bringing the Builders from its 40 to the CUA 28.  The clock ran out before the Builders could try a fourth down play.

OF NOTE

• Blake Penix hit a career-long 63-yard punt in the second quarter which equals the ninth-longest in school history.  That was his second 60+ yard punt in his career, ironically he hit a 60-yarder against Catholic on Oct. 15, 2011.
• Hodge's 78-yard scoring run is the third longest run from scrimmage in the last 15 years.  It was the longest since Chris Virgin broke off an 80-yard touchdown run against George Mason on September 19, 2009.
• Wall's 28-yard field goal was the first field goal made by the Builders in just over two years as Nick Foor hit a 24-yarder against Coppin State University on September 8, 2012.
