IN BRIEF: Two touchdowns in a 42 second span late in the fourth quarter gave visiting Methodist University a working margin as they defeated the Apprentice School 18-0 on Saturday.

ON THE FIELD

  • Both teams had trouble getting rolling offensively in the first half as the Monarchs broke the ice late in the first quarter.  After taking over at midfield, Methdoist went 50 yards in 12 plays as E'Mond Brown finished the last 11 of them with a scoring run up the middle.  The extra-point attempt failed as Methodist held a 6-0 lead with 42 seconds  left in the first quarter.
  • The guests got back on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as Jordan Vann connected with Damarco Smith on a nine-yard scoring pass that capped a 78-yard, 13-play drive.  A two-point conversion pass failed as Methodist pushed the advantage to 12-0 with 3:49 left.
  • Apprentice School got the ball back, but on the second play, Shyheim Simpson stepped in front of a Caleb Heath pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown with 3:07 left.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Methodist was a high potent offense in 2014 averaging over 40 points and over 480 yards per game.  The Builders defense kept them in check holding them to 276 yards of offense with 84 coming on the ground.
  • Sophomore Dustin Hiner was the leading rusher for the Builders runnign 12 times for 57 yards.  The Builders as a team ran for 76 yards and threw for 93.
  • Freshman Ethan Bryce was the leading receiver for the Builders with five receptions for 14 yards.  Fellow freshman Javone Leak was next with three catches for 18 yards.
  • Defensively, junior Brandon Hampton was the leading tackler with 10 including seven solo stops.  Senior Travis harris was next with eight, while junior Ryan Ransom had seven, including 2.5 for a loss and one sack.

The Builders will start a three-game road swing to close out September as they travel to Oneonta, NY to face Hartwick College in a 2pm start on September 12.
