Apprentice School junior defensive back Brandon Hampton was named on Tuesday as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 5.
Hampton, a junior millwright apprentice from Timmonsville, SC, had a team-high 10 tackles including seven solo stops as the Builders dropped an 18-0 decision to Methodist University in the 2015 season opener.
He helped spearhead a Builders defense that held a high-powered Methodist attack in check to 200 yards per game less than their 2014 average of 470. His 10 tackles were one off his career-high of 11 set last year against Bluefield College.
The Builders return to action on Saturday with a first-ever matchup at Hartwick College. Kickoff is at 2 pm in Oneonta, NY.
