Football Returns to Action Saturday at Louisburg

The Apprentice School returns to action this Saturday as the Builders travel to Franklinton, N.C. to square off with Louisburg College. This will be the first meeting between the programs.

Louisburg opened up its season with a 4-game win streak, the latest victory a 37-0 decision over Huntingdon College JV on Sept. 27th. The Hurricanes, members of the National Junior College Athletic Association, are led by sophomore quarterback Darron Downing, who has thrown for 411 yards and three touchdowns. The Hurricanes also have a pair of weapons on the ground, with sophomore running back Darian Curley and freshman running back Nehemiah Harris each scoring 4 touchdowns. Louisburg is ranked No. 12 in the latest NJCAA Football Poll.

The Builders are looking to end Louisburg's winning streak with their first victory of the season. Dustin Hiner and Brenden O'Neil have each rushed for a pair of scores, while Heath has also thrown for 178 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Travis Harris leads the team with 29 tackles, followed by Michael K. Scott with 21 tackles. Ryan Ransom has 14 tackles and leads the team with a pair of sacks.

The Builders hung tough early in their last game against Washington & Lee, matching score for score in the opening quarter before the Generals were able to pull away for the 56-21 win. Hiner paced the offense in that game with 194 rushing yards and two touchdowns to earn USCAA Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 29th. Wide reciever Lou Picolo also earned a USCAA Weekly Honor, returning five kickoffs for 107 yards to earn the Special Teams distinction.
