Brevard Game Ruled No Contest Due to Inclement Weather

The Builders traveled this past weekend to Brevard College (NC) to take on the Tornadoes. Ironically, the host teams mascot would come into play as with 5:57 left in the 3rd quarter, with the Builders leading 20-19, mother nature decided to step in and force a weather delay due to lightning in the area. After a 3 hour weather delay and several more hours of not letting up, player safety became the biggest concern and play was officially suspended. Due to NCAA and USA South Conference rules, the game will go as a No Contest. A ruling was made early Sunday morning between Athletic Directors and USA South officials.

Director of Athletics, Michael W. Allen stated. "It was an unfortunate circumstance but it was the right decision. With close to 20 minutes of football left to be played, and only a one point separation, it was deemed a no contest. Obviously we are disappointed for our young men who worked so hard, but it was not an official, complete game - period. Once we referred to the NCAA policy, it was determined a no contest due to Brevard didn't want to concede the game and making a return trip back to Brevard to complete the game was not feasible for either school. There are no ill feelings towards Brevard or the USA South Conference. Had the roles been reversed, with Brevard leading, it would have still been the same decision. I appreciate Myranda Davis and Dr. Tom Hart for helping work through this not so ideal situation. We'll regroup and are focused on hosting Gallaudet this week."

Despite the no contest, the Builders played hard to erase an early 17 to 0 deficit and take the lead of the game. It's an unfortunate situation, but the Builders now turn their focus to Gallaudet on September 21st. Gallaudet visits Newport News for a 1:00 pm game where the Builders will look to remain undefeated on the young season.
