53-Point Second Half Lifts Men Over Washington Adventist 79-65

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. - The Apprentice School used a strong second half, outscoring NCAA Division II Washington Adventist 53-35 to pull away for a 79-65 on Monday night in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup.

In a first half that saw six ties, the Builders jumped out to a 14-9 lead on an Eric Joe dunk with 11:42 left.  Washington Adventist answered with an 11-5 spurt to take a 20-19 advantage on a Desmin Wade free throw with 6:31 remaining.

Apprentice School scored six of the next seven points to take a 25-20 advantage on a pair of Joe free throws at the 5:08 mark.  The Shock closed the half on a 10-1 run to take its largest lead at 30-26 on a Branden Washington layup at the halftime horn.

In the second half, the Shock took its final lead as Darrick Williams hit a layup with 17:58 left for a 33-31 advantage.  Apprentice School took command with an 18-6 run over the next 7:05 for a 49-37 advantage on an Isaih Harrison layup with 10:53 remaining.  Washington Adventist cut the lead to six points on three occasions, the last coming on a layup from Antonio Ortega with 4:18 left for a 61-55 Builder lead.  The Builders doubled the lead as a Harrison tip-in put them back up 69-57 with 1:47 left.

Harrison was the leading scorer in the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds for double-double number 13 on the season for him.  Joe was the next high scorer with 17 points and five rebounds, while Chris Hearn added 12 points and five rebounds.  Tim Johnson chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds, while Tevin Andrews added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Apprentice School (11-11).  The Builders held a commanding 51-27 advantage on the boards, including 21-8 on the offensive glass.  They hit a blistering 18-of-32 from the floor (56.3%) and outscored Washington Adventist 53-35 in the second half.

Next up for the Builders will be NAIA Division II Bluefield College at 8 pm on Friday night at Hampton University's Holland Hall.
