Men's Basketball Knocks Off UDC 73-54 On Senior Night

HAMPTON, VA. - Senior Eric Joe matched his career-high with 30 points on Senior Night as the Apprentice School defeated University of District of Columbia 73-54 at Hampton University's Holland Hall on Wednesday night.

Joe, who previously scored 30 points against Bluefield College in December of 2008, was 12-of-22 from the floor and hit a career-best four 3-pointers.  His 30 points pushed his career total to 1,215 which is third on the all-time modern era career list.

The Builders (13-12) got to an early 17-10 lead on a Joe dunk with 9:12 remaining.  UDC answered with a 12-4 run over the next nearly six minutes to take a 22-21 lead on a Chris Leach layup with 3:14 left.  The Firebirds took their final lead of the game on a pair of Leach free throws at the 2:33 mark for a 24-23 advantage.  Apprentice School closed the half on a 7-2 run for a 30-26 lead on an Andre Henderson layup with 29 seconds left.

In the second half, each team traded buckets in the first 45 seconds before the Builders went on a 13-2 run to take a 46-30 lead on a Joe layup with 13:36 left.  From there, the lead grew to as much as 22 points on two different occasions.

Tim Johnson had 14 points and nine rebounds on the night for the Builders, while Isaih Harrison had 14 points and 11 rebounds for his 15th double-double of the season.  For the year he became the first Builder since Steve Butler in 1995-96 to average a double-double ending the season averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per game.
