Men's Basketball Opens Season With 86-79 Win At NHTI

 

CONCORD, N.H. - Sophomore Lewis Archer scored 19 points and freshman Christopher Hearn also added 19 as the Apprentice School men's basketball team defeated New Hampshire Technical Institute 86-79 in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup Friday night.

The Builders (1-0) opened the game strong and held a 44-27 lead at intermission in its season opener.  In the second half the Lynx opened on a 15-5 run cutting the deficit to 49-42 on a Matt Cloutier jumper with 16:27 left.  Apprentice School pushed the lead back to 12 points on six different occasions, the latest on a Tevin Andrews jumper with 7:22 left for a 73-61 lead. 

NHTI answered with a 10-2 run over the next 1:46 to cut the lead down to 75-71 on an Ahntwaun Harris jumper with 5:36 left.  In fact the hosts had the deficit down to four points on three occasions, the latest on a pair of Martin Olivier free throws with 1:38 left for an 83-79 Builder advantage. 

Andrews started his Builder career with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Isaih Harrison added 11 points and six rebounds coming off the bench.

The Builders now visit South Portland, Maine for a 1 pm tipoff against Southern Maine CC on Saturday.
