In the second half, the Trojans cut the deficit to seven points on two occasions as a Brandon Plummer jumper with eight minutes left brought the hosts to 66-59.  Apprentice School pushed the advantage back up to 75-62 with 3:56 left on a Harrison 3-point play.

Freshman Darrell Fenton chipped in 13 points while fellow freshman Terrence Palmer added 11 for Apprentice School who shot 15-of-24 from the floor in the second half (62.5%) and hit 32-of-58 (55.2%) from the floor for the game.  Justin Bess paced Virginia State (1-1) with 22 points, while Plummer added 16.
