Second Half Outburst Lifts Builders Over Barber-Scotia 80-61

CONCORD, N.C. – Junior Isaih Harrison scored 27 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while sophomore Tevin Andrews scored all 17 of his points in the second half as the Apprentice School pulled away from Barber-Scotia College for an 80-61 win on Friday night.

The host Sabers jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead on a 3-pointer from Ke'vontae Hairlson with 16:12 left before the Builders tied the game at 10-all on a 3-point play from Tim Johnson at the 12:22 mark.  That 3-point play started the Builders on a 15-4 run for a 24-14 advantage with 7:36 left on a layup from Johnson.

In the second half, the hosts stayed in the contest early as a Herve Bello jumper with 16:01 left brought Barber-Scotia to within nine points at 36-27.  Apprentice School then took off on a 17-6 run over the next 3:46 to take a 53-33 advantage on a dunk by Andrews with 12:15 left.  The lead grew to as much as 28 points on two occasions late with a Harrison jumper making the score 74-46 with 4:09 remaining.

Harrison scored 18 of his 27 points in the second half, while Andrews erupted after a scoreless first half to pour in his 17 points.  Johnson was next in line with nine points and seven rebounds for the Builders who hit 50% from the floor (30-of-60).  After a rough first half where the Builders turned the ball over 18 times and shot 41.7%, they improved on those numbers hitting 20-of-36 from the floor (55.6%) and only turned the ball over five times.

Barber-Scotia was paced by Bello with 13 points off the bench and Hairlson added 12 while Shane Williams chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.  The Sabers shot 23-of-64 from the floor (35.9%) while committing 26 turnovers.

Apprentice School now travels to NCAA Division II Francis Marion for a 4 pm game against the Patriots in Florence, S.C.
