FLORENCE, S.C. – Homestanding Francis Marion University nailed a school-record 17 3-pointers as six Patriots scored in double figures in a 101-63 win over The Apprentice School on Saturday afternoon.
Francis Marion scored the first four points of the game and never trailed. They pushed the advantage to 29-11 on a Dominique Coleman tip-in with 7:46 left. Apprentice School cut the advantage to 40-30 on a 3-point play from Tim Johnson with 1:22 left.
In the second half, the Patriots found another gear from behind the arc as they drained 12-of-17 (70.6%) in the final 20 minutes. They were nearly as hot from the floor overall in both halves hitting 20-of-36 (55.6%) in the first half and 21-of-39 (53.8%) in the second. A layup from Darrell Fenton 47 seconds into the second half brought the Builders to its closest margin of the final stanza at 45-33.
Isaih Harrison scored 20 points and eight rebounds to lead four in double figures for the Apprentice School (5-3) as Tevin Andrews had 13 points and eight rebounds, Andre Henderson chipped in 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds and Johnson scored 10 points.
The Builders now travel across the water to face NCAA Division III 9th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College (8-0) on Monday night at 7 pm in the Jane Batten Center.
