Hot-Shooting Golden Bulls Blow By Builders In Second Half For 98-75 Win

CHARLOTTE, NC – Homestanding Johnson C. Smith shot 60% from the floor in the second half and pulled away for a 98-75 win over The Apprentice School on Saturday afternoon in Brayboy Gymnasium.

Apprentice School held a 5-4 lead barely 90 seconds into the game on a layup from Tim Johnson, but the Golden Bulls went on 13-2 run over the next 3:07 to take a 17-7 advantage on a James Otey 3-pointer.  The lead grew to as much as 18 points at 36-18 on a layup from Otey with 7:08 left.  A layup from Terrence Palmer with 69 seconds left in the first half cut that lead down to 42-36, but Otey drained a pair of 3-pointers to close the half along with a layup from Earl Jackson putting the hosts up 50-36 at intermission.

In the second half, the Builders got the deficit down to nine points with 15:43 left on a Johnson layup, but the Golden Bulls hit 18-of-30 from the floor (60%) in the second half and ended the game hitting 36-of-66 (54.5%) to take the 23-point win.

Junior Isaih Harrison had game-highs of 29 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Builders, while Johnson added 12 points and six rebounds and Tevin Andrews chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.

Apprentice School heads to Salisbury, N.C. to face Livingstone College in a 4 pm tip on Sunday afternoon to close out the first half of the season.
