Firebirds Blast Way Past Builders 106-78

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A hot-shooting University of District of Columbia Firebirds drained 10 3-pointers in the first half and went on to defeat the Apprentice School 106-78 on Wednesday night.

The hosts started out blazing hitting seven of their first nine buckets - with all seven being from behind the 3-point line as a Keith Brooks 3-pointer put the Firebirds ahead 21-0 with 15:18 left.  Apprentice School went on a 10-4 spurt to cut the deficit to 25-10 on an Andre Henderson jumper with 11:56 left.  That was as close as the Builders got in the first half.

In the second half, Henderson hit his second 3-pointer in the opening 2:04 to put the Builders down 61-35.  From there, UDC went on a 20-6 run over the next 3:03 to take an 81-41 lead on a 3-pointer from Brandon Herbert.  Apprentice School cut the lead back down to 26 late in the game and that was as close as it ended.

Tevin Andrews paced four in double figures for Apprentice School with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Isaih Harrison added 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Henderson chipped in with 12 points off the bench and Duane Douglas scored a career high 10 points for Apprentice School (10-12).

UDC was topped by Herbert with 28 points while Nigel Munson added 18 points and 12 assists and Tim Ellison also scored 18 points.  The hosts hit 39-of-67 from the floor (58.2%) and drained 14-of-25 from 3-point land (56%).

Apprentice School returns home to close the year with three straight home games starting Sunday with NCAA Division II Washington Adventist at 3 pm.
