Builders Block Party Leads Men Over Williamson Trade 81-69

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – In a workmanlike effort on Friday night, junior Isaih Harrison paced three Builders in double figures with 26 points as the Apprentice School tied a school single-game record with 11 blocked shots in route to an 81-69 win over Williamson Trade.

The Builders trailed early as the Mechanics jumped out to an early 7-4 lead on a 3-pointer from Reggie Richardson with 16:43 left.  Williamson Trade kept a small margin going and held a 13-12 lead on a free throw from Dennis Cooper with 12:56 left.

Apprentice School went on a 9-3 run to take a 21-16 lead on a layup from Harrison with 8:48 left.  Williamson followed with a 3-pointer from Zach Tansey to cut the deficit to 21-18 25 seconds later, but that was as close as the game got.  Apprentice School closed the half on an 18-7 run capped by a pair of Latrone Demiel free throws to lead 39-26 going into halftime.

In the second half, Apprentice School took a 16-point lead on a Demiel 3-pointer with 18:05 left before the Mechanics had a final run in them going on an 11-2 run over the next 3:43 to trim the lead to 46-39 on a pair of Dennis Cooper free throws.  The Builders pushed the lead back to 14 points on a layup from Andre Henderson with 9:15 left to lead 61-47 and was never in question from there.

The 11 blocked shots tied a school record set twice most recently against Southern Virginia University on January 9, 2002.  Darrell Fenton had six of those blocked shots and just missed the single-game record of seven.  Harrison broke the single-season rebounding record with 282.  That record was held by Steve Butler in the 1995-96 season.  Joining Harrison in double figures was Tevin Andrews with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Andre Henderson chipped in with 13.

The Builders close out the season against Berkeley College (NJ) at 4 pm on Saturday.
