Builders Finish MACU Showcase 3-0 With 76-64 Win Over Florida Christian

ELIZABETH CITY, NC – Freshman Lance Darden scored a season-best 25 points to lead three in double figures on Saturday as the Apprentice School defeated Florida Christian College 76-64 to finish the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Showcase with a perfect 3-0 mark.

The Suns soared out to a quick 7-2 lead on a Jose Burgos 3-pointer at the 17:04 mark.  Apprentice School cut the lead down and took over for good on a pair of Tim Johnson free throws with 11:32 left to lead 13-12.  FCC made a late run ending the half on an 8-2 spurt, after the Builders took a 31-23 lead with 2:14 left on a Darden jumper, making the halftime score 33-31 on a Kenny Blanc layup.

In the second half, the Builders jumped out quickly with a 10-2 spurt in the first 3:04 as a Johnnie Ferebee layup gave Apprentice School a 43-33 advantage.  FCC kept hanging around cutting the deficit to three on a Sam Stephens layup with 9:51 left for a 49-46 margin.  Three points stayed the margin for a couple minutes before Apprentice School closed the deal with a 14-4 run over a 5:25 span for a 67-54 lead on a Darden layup.

Ferebee added 16 points and eight assists, while senior Isaih Harrison finished with 15 points and a team high 18 rebounds for the Builders who now have a home game on Tuesday night against U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association newcomer Virginia University of Lynchburg at 8 pm .
