Builders Stumble In 82-74 Loss To Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, VA. – The host Mary Washington Eagles put a 13-0 run on the Apprentice school over a 6:32 span of the second half to take command and defeat the Builders 82-74 on Saturday in the UMW Tipoff Classic.

Mary Washington opened the game on a 13-2 run over the first 5:47 as Tad Dickman's layup put the host up 11.  The lead remained near 10 points throughout most of the half, before the Builders scored nine points in the span of 63 seconds late in the half to tie the game 36-all on a Lance Darden jumper with 39 seconds left.  Ryan Henderson's jumper 17 seconds later gave UMW a halftime advantage of 38-36.

In the second half, the Builders took a lead of 44-43 on a jumper from Isaih Harrison with 17:46 left before the hosts started their 13-0 run with a 3-pointer from Ryan Farrar with 15:28 left.  The Builders cut the lead to 79-74 late on a 3-pointer from Lance Darden with 18 seconds left, but that was the final points of the night as UMW went 3-of-4 from the line in the final 16 seconds.

Darden was the leading scorer with 15 points, while Harrison and Tevin Andrews added 13 apiece and Tim Johnson chipped in 10 points.  Harrison recorded his sixth double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Apprentice School is now off until Nov. 30 when they go to Chowan University for a 7 pm tip against the NCAA Division II Hawks.
