Hot-Shooting Hawks Top Builders 92-69

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Homestanding Chowan University drained eight of its 10 three-pointers in the first half and jumped out to a 14-3 lead early en route to a 92-69 win over the Apprentice School on Wednesday night at the Jesse Helms Center.

James Davis hit his fourth 3-pointer of the first half for Chowan to give them a 33-15 advantage with four minutes left.  The Builders answered with an 8-0 run over the next 74 seconds to trim that deficit to 33-23 on a pair of Lavontae Thomas free throws with 2:46 left.  Chowan closed the half on an 11-2 as a pair of Greg Alston free throws with seven seconds left put the hosts up 44-25 heading into halftime.

A three-point play by Antonio Reddic put Chowan up 47-25 just 11 seconds into the second half.  The Builders responded with a 10-1 run over the next 2:28 as a Tevin Andrews layup brought the Builders to within 13 at 48-35 with 17:21 left.  After trading points for a couple minutes, the Hawks used a 9-2 run over an 84 second span to take a 61-41 lead on a Quinton McDuffie jumper.  The Builders used a 3-pointer from Lance Darden and a jumper from Isaih Harrison to get to 61-46 with 12:45, but that was as close as they got.

Harrison was the leading scorer for the Builders (5-2) with his seventh double-double of the year scoring 19 points and hauling in 12 rebounds.  He was the lone double figure scorer as Andrews nearly recorded a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. Reddic was the leading scorer for Chowan with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Apprentice School returns home to face Mary Washington on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
