Men Hold Off Sabers For 72-69 Win

CONCORD, NC -- The Apprentice School men's basketball team held off a pesky Barber-Scotia Sabres squad for a key 72-69 U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association victory on Saturday in a battle of teams ranked in the USCAA Top 20.

Apprentice School, ranked #2 in the latest poll, came out strong jumping to a 25-11 lead with four minutes remaining and held a 33-22 lead going into halftime.

The Sabers, ranked 16th in the poll, would not go away and cut the deficit down to 50-44 with 10 minutes left.  They made things even tighter trailing 57-55 with five minutes left before the Builders made a late flurry to pull back into the lead.

Junior Tevin Andrews had a season-best 30 points and 13 rebounds, while senior Isaih Harrison recorded his ninth double-double in ten games with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Freshman Lance Darden chipped in with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Builders.

Apprentice School will close out the 2011 portion of its schedule facing NCAA Division II Pfeiffer University in a 2 pm tip on Sunday afternoon.
