AVE MARIA, FLA. -- For the second time in their careers, the tandem of Tevin Andrews and Isaih Harrison each broke 30 points in a game on Friday for the Apprentice School men's basketball team.  Andrews topped his career-best of 34 on Thursday with 37 points and Harrison narrowly missed his career high with 32 as the Builders defeated Valor Christian 104-89 in the second game of the Ave Maria/USCAA Classic.

A frantic first half saw the Builders work their way to a 19-12 lead with 12:39 left on a jumper from Andrews.  The Warriors cut the deficit down to two at 23-21 on an Alan Jones layup with 10:26 left.  Apprentice School (11-2) methodically worked the lead into double digits on a Tim Johnson layup with 3:28 left to lead 40-30.  They closed the half on a 16-7 spurt as a layup from Harrison at the buzzer gave the Builders a 56-37 halftime advantage.

Andrews had 23 of his 37 in the first half and Harrison added 13 of his 32 points which put them both within striking range of the 900 and 1,400 career-point marks respectively.  The first one to strike that mark was Andrews as his dunk with 17:35 left put him at 900 career points and gave them a 60-44 lead.  Harrison responded with a pair of free throws at the 16:17 mark to break 1,400 career points and give the Builders a 68-46 advantage.

The lead in the second half grew to as much as 26 points on two occasions but the Warriors chopped it down to the eventual final margin of 15 points as Alan Jones hit a pair of foul shots with eight seconds left for the 104-89 final.

Apprentice School scored the most points in a game under second year head coach Franklin Chatman.  Andrews' 37 point night is the fourth-highest in the modern era of Apprentice School basketball, while his 17 field goals made is two off the school mark of 19 by Charles Holiday against Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 10, 2006.  His consecutive 30-point outings mark the first time a Builder did that since Holiday went for 33 (Penn State Berks) and 36 (Cabrini) in the early part of the 2005-06 season. 

Harrison included 15 rebounds and seven assists to go with his 32 point night.  Those two went for 31 (Andrews) and 30 (Harrison) last season against the University of the District of Columbia.  As a team, the Builders shot a season-best 59.2% from the floor (42-of-71), outrebounded Valor Christian 45-32 and only had a season-low nine turnovers on the game.

The Builders close the classic facing the host Ave Maria Gyrenes (7-4) on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 pm.  Ave Maria was the 2011 USCAA Men's Division I National Runner-up and is currently ranked eighth in the latest USCAA Men's Division I Coaches Poll.
