Builders Open Season With Convincing 82-52 Win Over Penn Highlands

MCKEESPORT, PA. – After falling behind early, the Apprentice School used a 22-0 run over an eight minute span of the first half to cruise to an 82-53 win over Penn Highlands in the first day of the Penn State Greater Allegheny USCAA Tipoff on Friday afternoon.

Penn Highlands took an early 5-3 lead as Josh Corbett hit a short jumper with 17:48 left, but that was their last points for the next 8:18 as Darrell Fenton hit a free throw and a Tevin Andrews jumper gave the Builders the lead back at 6-5 with 16:41 left.  Apprentice School responded with the next 22 points as a 3-point play from Fenton with 9:30 left gave the Builders a 25-5 lead.

Andrews was the leading scorer in the game with 27 points and seven rebounds, while Fenton and sophomore Lavontae Thomas added 11 points apiece for the Builders.  Freshman Sam Melendez was the leading rebounder with 11, while Fenton added five blocked shots.

Penn Highlands was topped by a trio of players with 10 points apiece – Rashaud Kelley, Corbett and Mike Robinson.  

Apprentice School will close out action in the tipoff tomorrow at 1pm against University of Pittsburgh-Titusville.
