Men's Basketball Falls 77-56 At Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, NC – Senior Tevin Andrews scored a season high 28 points and hauled in 13 rebounds as the Apprentice School lost 77-56 at NCAA Division II Elizabeth City State in the ECSU Classic on Saturday night.

The Builders ran with the deeper Vikings in the first half and took a 25-19 lead on an Andrews 3-pointer with 8:55 left.  ECSU ripped off 11 of the next 13 points to take a 30-27 lead on a dunk from Angelo Sharpless with 2:54 left.  A pair of Lavontae Thomas free throws with 29 seconds left cut the deficit to 30-29, but a 3-pointer from Quintin Spady with four seconds left in the half gave the hosts a 33-29 lead.

In the second half, ECSU opened outscoring the Builders 17-5 in the first 8:03 to lead 50-34 on a layup from Sharpless with 11:57 left.   Apprentice School cut the lead to 10 with 5:39 left as Andrews hit a layup for a 58-48 margin, but that was as close as they got as ECSU went on a 13-1 run to lead 71-49 with 2:04 left on a layup from Glenn Patterson.

The Builders hit the home hardwood on Wednesday night when they face Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 6 pm.
