Builders Blister Nets En Route To 104-72 Win Over Mid-Atlantic Christian

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The Apprentice School Builders opened the game on a 19-4 run in the first five minutes and took control for a 104-72 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University in the home opener on Wednesday night.

A three-point barrage helped push the Builders in the first half as Lavontate Thomas opened the game with a 3-pointer in the first 20 seconds and Latrone Demiel closed the opening flurry with a 3-pointer to lead 19-4 with 15:22 left.  Demiel hit another 3-pointer to jump start a 23-4 burst over a 5:15 span to go up 42-10 on a layup from Cameron Perry with 8:57 left.

In the first half, the Builders hit 10-of-14 from 3-point range and ended the game with 11 3-pointers.  That tied the third most in school history and was the most in a game since the school record was set Feb. 10, 2006 at Florida Gulf Coast with 13.

Senior Tevin Andrews was the leading scorer for the Builders with 16 points and six rebounds to lead five in double figures.  Demiel had 15 points along with Perry and freshman Rodney Goodman who had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

As a team, the Builders hit 50.6% from the field (40-of-79), 11-of-23 from 3-point range and out-rebounded the mustangs 58-32.  The 58 rebounds tied the fourth most in a single game.

Leading Mid-Atlantic Christian in scoring was Niles Forsythe with 14 points and Wayne Lipford added 12 for the Mustangs who fell to 4-5 on the year.

Apprentice School now goes on the road for a two-game swing in New York opening up with a first-time matchup against fellow U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association member and NCAA Division III member St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Friday night at 8 pm.
