Scoring Drought Sinks Builders In 64-61 Loss To St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY – Four free throws in the final eight seconds helped cap a game-ending 12-0 run by St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Friday night as they defeated the Apprentice School 64-61 in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup.

The host Bears used a 10-0 run in the late stages of the first half to take their largest lead of the night as 33-21 on a Michael Megafu layup with 2:10 remaining.  The Builders chopped a bit at that lead in the final part of the half cutting the margin to 36-28 on a Latrone Demiel 3-pointer with 18 seconds left.

In the second half, the Builders took their first lead with 9:48 left on a Lance Darden 3-pointer which put them up 49-48.  That triple started a 12-4 flurry over the next 4:21 capped by a Tevin Andrews jumper with 5:27 left to give the Builders a 61-52 lead.

From there, the Bears were 6-of-8 from the line as Megafu hit a pair with eight seconds left to go up 62-61 and Vernon Maddox hit two with six seconds to put the hosts ahead 64-61.

Darden was the leading scorer for the Builders with 13 points, while Demiel added 12 and Andrews scored 10.  Apprentice School hit 22-of-67 from the floor (32.8%) and were out-rebounded 49-45.

St. Joseph's was paced by Jan Rogowski with 17 points and David Louison with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Builders will now travel to Newark, NJ to face Berkeley College on Saturday night at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
