Men's Basketball Opens 2013 Hosting Virginia Wesleyan Tonight

The 2013 portion of the Apprentice School men's basketball schedule begins tonight with a 6:30 tip at Apprentice Athletic Center against the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.

Apprentice School enters the game coming off an 82-73 win over NAIA Division II Fisher College on December 20.  Senior Tevin Andrews topped the Builders in scoring with 23 points and 15 rebounds and freshman Jay Melendez had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Virginia Wesleyan opened its season with seven straight wins vaulting to the #1-ranking in the D3hoops.com Top 25 before losing its last three games.  Senior Chris Astorga leads the Marlins in scoring (15.4 ppg) and is second in rebounding (5.4) and blocked shots (17).

The Marlins lead the all-time series 15-4 and have won the last four meetings.  Apprentice School last defeated the then 9th-ranked Marlins 76-75 at VWC on Dec. 8, 2007.
