Second Half Burst Leads Knights Over Builders 84-73

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Anders Jacobson scored 21 points to lead four Knights in double figures on Saturday as Southern Virginia University used a 25-9 run early in the second half to pull away for an 84-73 win over the Apprentice School.

The Builders scored the first three points of the game and that proved to be the only lead for the hosts as Isaac Jacobson tied the game on a 3-pointer at the 18 minute mark.  Southern Virginia pushed the lead to 18-8 on a layup from Casey Nye with 11:17 left, but the Builders kept pushing back and trimmed the lead to 20-17 on a Latrone Demiel free throw with 8:21 remaining.

The lead kept bouncing back from 3-10 points as SVU took a 34-24 lead on an Anders Jacobson layup with 2:15 left.

In the second half, the Builders scored the first four points to trim the halftime deficit to 39-35 on a Darrell Fenton dunk with 19:14 left.  The Knights broke the game open going on a 25-9 run to take a 66-44 lead on a John Woodson jumper with 10:33 left.  Apprentice School cut the deficit to eight points on a Tevin Andrews jumper with 3:17 remaining, but that was as close as the lead got.

Andrews topped the Builders with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Fenton added 10 points and six rebounds.  Nye joined Jacobson in double figures for the Knights with 18 points, while Jed Harr added 11 and seven rebounds and Isaac Jacobson chipped in with 10 points and nine boards.

The Builders return to action on Friday night in Lynchburg against Virginia University of Lynchburg at 7 pm.
