NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – A frigid second half doomed the Apprentice School on Wednesday night as they fell 67-62 to NCAA Division II Washington Adventist University for Senior Night.

The Builders held a lead for most of the first half, jumping out to an 11-4 lead with 16:33 left on a short jumper from Darrell Fenton.  The Shock used a 12-2 run over a 4:25 span late in the half to take a 35-31 lead on a 3-pointer from Martin Wilson with 2:56 left.  Apprentice School closed the half on a 7-0 run as Rodney Goodman tipped in a missed shot at the buzzer to put the Builders up 38-35 at intermission.

In the second half, the Builders turned ice cold hitting 22% from the field.  A 3-pointer from Harvey Todd gave the Shock a 43-40 lead that they held for the majority of the second half.  The Builders made one flurry as Jay Melendez hit a 3-pointer with just over five minutes left to put the Builders up 59-58.  A pair of Todd free throws with 4:09 left gave Washington Adventist a 60-59 lead that they never relinquished.

Tevin Andrews scored 12 points and hauled in nine rebounds to lead the Builders, while Wilson had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Shock.

Apprentice School is now off until February 27 when they face Daemen College at 5 pm in the opening round of the 2013 USCAA National Championships in Uniontown, PA.
