Apprentice School Athletics Weekend Preview - Jan. 24-25

Apprentice School Athletics Weekend Preview - Jan. 24-25

A busy weekend for Apprentice School athletics starts this afternoon as the wrestlers take stage in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Collegiate Cup Duals at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center.

The Builders will join 23 other teams in a two-day affair that will help determine the NCWA National Champion as where you place in this event will give you points toward the NCWA National Championship in March.

Eight pools of three teams will wrestle each other and the top two teams from each pool will fill out a 16-team bracket which will begin action at 6 pm tonight.

Apprentice School will open action at 2 pm today when they'll face the loser Tennessee Temple-Stony Brook.  With a win, they'll face the winner of that match at 4 pm.  A pair of wins will put them against either East Tennessee State, Toledo or Central Florida in a 6pm match tonight.

With a pair of wins today, two Builders will break the 100-win plateau as Apprentice School Head Coach Bruce Shumaker and junior heavyweight Ian Jones are two wins from the 100-win mark in their careers.

BASKETBALL TEAMS FACE WASHINGTON ADVENTIST

In a twist of the schedule, both Apprentice School basketball teams will face off with Washington Adventist University on Saturday.  The men's game will take place at Washington Adventist in Takoma Park, Md., while the women's game will take place at the new Apprentice Gym with both games starting at 7 pm.

The men's game will see a pair of 12-7 teams go at each other in The Pitt at Washington Adventist.  The Shock lost on Thursday night to NAIA Division I West Virginia Tech 79-73, while the Builders defeated Barber-Scotia 75-58 on Sunday.

In the women's game, the Lady Shock are 7-13 after defeating Trinity University 80-61 on Thursday night.  The Lady Builders are 12-4 after defeating Briarcliffe College 81-25 on Sunday in the MLK Classic.  Apprentice School will return to the home floor on Monday night for a 6pm tip against in-state rival Southern Virginia University.
