ON THE COURT: Warren Powers scored 16 points to pace six in double figures for visiting Chowan University as they shot a blistering 63.9% from the floor for the game en route to a 109-67 win over The Apprentice School on Monday night.

The Builders only held two leads all night as Johnnie Ferebee scored the first points of the game with 19:04 left and Darrell Fenton hit a jumper with 17:14 remaining in the half for a 6-5 advantage.

Chowan, a NCAA Division II member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, responded with a 29-4 run over the next 5:41 to lead 34-10 on a 3-pointer from Dominique Terry with 11:33 left.  The lead grew to as much as 35 points in the first half.

In the second half, the Builders cut down their turnovers from 22 in the first to only five in the second.  Junior Zach Zastrow put on a 3-point show in the second half draining four from behind the arc, including three in a near two minute span which included a four-point play which cut the margin to 87-50 with 8:06 left.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Zastrow was the leading scorer on the night for the Builders with a career-high 15 points as he was 5-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the 3-point arc to go with his lone free throw.
  • Jamal Curry was the other double figure scorer for the Builders with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
  • Jaman Hoskie set a season-high of eight points topping his previous high of seven against Mid-Atlantic Christian University on November 20.
  • The Hawks shot 18-of-25 from the floor in the second half (72%) and were 5-of-6 from 3-point range (83.3%).
  • For the game, the Hawks were 39-of-61 from the floor (63.9%), 14-of-18 from 3-point range (77.8%) and 17-of-27 from the foul line (63%).  Kortez Smith was next in scoring with 15 points and six assists for Chowan (7-12).
  • The 109 points given up tonight was the most in a game for the Builders since Washington Adventist defeated them 114-91 on Feb. 18, 2012 in Takoma Park, Md.
