IN BRIEF: A 13-2 run over a six minute span early in the second half helped propel the Apprentice School to an 80-68 victory over Penn State Worthington Scranton on Sunday afternoon.

ON THE COURT

• The Builders opened the game as cold as the weather in Dunmore going 3-for-15 from the field in the first nearly seven minutes. Penn State Worthington Scranton took a 16-8 lead with 13:40 left in the first half on a layup from Jeff Griffin.
• Apprentice School started to warm up going on an 11-2 run over the next 3:17 to take a 19-18 lead on a Tony Walton layup with 10:23 in the first half. A Johnnie Ferebee 3-pointer with 7:07 left gave the Builders a 28-26 lead.
• The hosts found a groove and ripped off a 13-4 run over the next 4:27 as a Haslin Dixon jumper gave them a 39-32 advantage. The Builders trimmed it to one point twice, as a Cameron Perry jumper with 49 seconds left got them to 41-40. Three free throws in the final 25 seconds for the hosts gave them a 44-40 halftime advantage.
• In the second half, a Dixon jumper with 17:58 left gave the hosts a 46-41 lead. Apprentice School ripped off 13 of the next 15 points to take a 56-48 lead on a Walton jumper with 11:53 left. The lead was never less than four points for the rest of the game.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Jay Melendez was the leading scorer for the Builders with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Jamal Curry matched him with 13 rebounds and added eight points. Johnnie Ferebee added 16 points and nine assists, while Walton and Dante Johnson scored 10 points each for the Builders.
• After a 3-for-15 start, the Builders finished 33-of-68 from the floor (48.5%), 5-of-16 from 3-point land (31.3%) and 9-of-15 from the foul line (60%). They outrebounded the hosts 53-39.
• The Nittany Lions were paced by Dixon with a game-high 20 points , 11 rebounds and five assists. Jon Devine chipped in with 18 points, six assists and three steals.
• Following a first half that saw them hit just under 50% from the floor, the hosts were held to an 8-of-39 showing in the second half (20.5%).
