IN BRIEF: Junior Jay Melendez scored 18 points and senior Jamal Curry added 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Apprentice School dropped an 83-64 decision to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Saturday night.

ON THE COURT

• The homestanding Bears jumped out to a lead that they never relinquished in defeating the Apprentice School.  A David Louison free throw put the hosts up 8-3 with 16:04 left.
• The lead grew to 17-7 on a pair of Jamir Archer free throws at the 12:29 mark.  St. Joseph's threatened to blow the Builders out of their new facility as the lead jumped to 36-16 on a Matt O'Neill 3-pointer with 5:54 left.
• Apprentice School got a little life with a 9-0 spurt as a DeAndre Demiel jumper with 2:16 left got them to 36-25.
• In the second half, the lead grew to 20 points on a Jamir Archer free throw with 15:51 left for a 49-29 advantage.  Apprentice School cut that to 12 on a Dante Johnson layup with 10:11 remaining for a 55-43 deficit, but that was as close as they got the rest of the night.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Melendez was 6-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-8 from 3-point land for his team-high 18 points.  Curry recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  
• St. Joseph's had five in double figures with Michael Megafu leading with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Louison joined him with a double-double of 12 points and 15 boards.  O'Neill had 18 points, nine boards and seven assists, while Archer added 16 and Greg Beehler was 4-of-5 from behind the arc for his 12 points.

The men will play on the home floor of The Apprentice Athletic Center for the first time in over a month on January 16 to start the MLK Classic when they face Florida National University at 8 pm.
