IN BRIEF: Freshman DeAndre Demiel scored 18 points to lead three in double figures on Saturday night as the Apprentice School defeated Barber-Scotia 79-66 in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup.

ON THE COURT

• The visiting Sabers jumped out to an early 6-2 lead on a 3-pointer from Rashad Green with 17:46 left.  They held a three-point lead with 15:32 left as Walter Jackson converted a three-point play to lead 11-8.
• Apprentice School went on a 15-5 run over the next 4:33 to lead 23-16 on a layup from Lavonte Thomas.  The Builders pushed the advantage to 30-20 on a three-point play from Demiel at the 9:13 mark.
• Barber-Scotia cut that deficit in half as a Tristan Baxter-Green jumper with 3:28 left got them to 36-31, but a pair of Jay Melendez free throws with four seconds left in the half gave the hosts a 41-33 halftime advantage.
• In the second half, a Demiel layup with 18:38 left gave the Builders a 43-33 lead.  Barber-Scotia responded with an 11-2 run to trim the margin to 45-44 on a Shaquille Wilson jumper with 12:38 left. 
• Apprentice School went on a 12-4 run over the next 2:05 as a three-point play from Jamal Curry gave them a 57-48 lead with 10:33 left.  The lead never shrunk to less than seven points the rest of the game.
• The Builders locked the game away with a 13-2 run over a 3:38 span to lead 73-55 on a dunk from Curry with 2:06 left.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Demiel had season-highs in points (18) and steals (6) to lead the Builders.  He had 17 last week in a home win over Florida National University and had six games of two steals before tonight's six.
• Curry had his third straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  This was the seventh game in his last eight with a double-double.
• Melendez had his fourth straight double-double with 11 points and a season-high 15 rebounds.  His previous season-best in rebounds was 13 at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
• Apprentice School out-rebounded Barber-Scotia 52-41 and forced 19 turnovers while holding the Sabers to 36.9% from the floor (24-of-65).  The Builders were only a touch better from the floor at 37.1% (26-of-70).
• All five starters scored in double figures for the Sabers as Chris Calvan and Jackson had 15 points each.

CENTRAL PENN GAME

The Builders scheduled game with Central Penn College was postponed as the Knights would be facing weather issues heading home from a Sunday game.  The game will be made up in February.
