Weekend Preview - Jan. 31 - Feb. 1

Another busy weekend of Apprentice School athletics will see both basketball teams in action on Saturday, while the wrestling team will host an event on Sunday morning.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The men's team will visit Takoma Park, Md. on Saturday night for their first meeting of the year with the defending United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division I National Champion Washington Adventist University Shock.
Last year, each team won on the others home court as the Builders took an 82-78 win on Jan. 25, 2014 while the Shock won 63-59 on Feb. 11, 2014.
Washington Adventist enters with a 10-12 record after losing 78-77 to Bluefield State College on January 28.  Tyus Fleetwood leads the team in scoring at 16 points per game, while Eric Lindsey is averaging 14 and Martin Wilson chips in with 12.5 points and a team high 8.4 rebounds per game.
Apprentice School is 10-8 after defeating Mid-Atlantic Christian University 96-67 on January 27.  Jay Melendez leads the team in scoring at 17 points per game and is second in rebounds at 8.3 per game.  Johnnie Ferebee follows at 15.9 points and almost 5.5 assists per game, while Jamal Curry averages 11.4 points and almost 10 rebounds per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Lady Builders, fresh off their 47-43 win on Thursday night at Washington Adventist, will play their next-to-last home game of the 2014-15 season on Saturday afternoon facing West Virginia University Institute of Technology at 2 pm.
This is the first-ever meeting between the schools and the first of two meetings this year as the teams will meet in Montgomery, WV on March 1.
WVU Tech is currently 8-13 after defeating Washington Adventist University on Monday night.  Nia Nolan leads the team in scoring averaging 16.9 points, while Cheyanna Lusk is averaging 11.2 points per game.
Apprentice School is topped by Kenya Wilkerson averaging 13.1 points and 5.7 assists per game to lead four in double figures.  Freshman Ylexzis Traeger is averaging 12.7 points, senior Shanae Hilliard is at 11.9 per game while Courtney White is averaging 10.2 points per game.  Freshman Quanisha Bruce leads in rebounding at 6.7 per contest.

WRESTLING
The wrestling team is home this Sunday at the Apprentice Athletic Facility for the annual Builder Duals starting at 9 am.
The Builders will open the event facing Penn State Mont Alto, while East Carolina University will face Longwood University and James Madison University.  After that round, the Builders and ECU will flip opponents as the Builders will take on Longwood and JMU.  Following that round, the Builders will wrestle East Carolina.
Apprentice School is 17-5 after going 5-1 last weekend in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Duals to finish second.  Senior Ian Jones leads the team with a 26-6 record, while junior Josh Rodriguez is 25-8.  Freshman Michael Holcomb is 22-3, following his 6-0 performance at the NCWA National Duals to earn USCAA Wrestler of the Week honors, while junior Patrik Foxworth is 20-6.
The event will be held at the Apprentice Athletic Facility (Building 601) on the corner of 39th Street and Marshall Avenue.
