IN BRIEF:  Visiting Central Penn College jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first three minutes and scored a 109-99 win over The Apprentice School on Monday afternoon.

ON THE COURT

• The Knights came out blistering from the floor as they raced out to an 11-2 lead at the 17:18 mark on a layup from Shaki Stanten.
• It was a game of close, but not enough for the Builders as they trimmed the margin to five on a Jamal Curry jumper with 15:04 left for an 11-6 margin.  Central Penn then pushed the lead back to 11 on a Rahamon Scott layup with 11:55 left to lead 23-12.
• Apprentice School trimmed it to four on a Cameron Perry jumper with 10:02 left to trail 23-19, but the Knights scored 12 of the next 14 points to push the lead to 14 on a Devon Dorsey layup with 7:59 left to lead 35-21.
• They held a 14-point advantage three other times, with a pair of Dorsey free throws with 3:58 left giving them a 42-28 advantage.  Apprentice School scored the next nine points to trim the deficit to 42-37 on a Johnnie Ferebee layup with 2:37 left.
• The Knights closed the half on a 12-4 flurry to lead 54-41 on a 3-pointer from Daron Johnson to lead 54-41 with 31 seconds left in the half.  A Tony Walton layup brought the hosts to 54-43 at the half.
• In the second half, not much changed as Central Penn would push out to a lead and the Builders trimmed it to single digits before falling behind 18-20 points.  A Devon Dorsey free throw with 3:21 left put the Knights up 100-81, but the Builders had one final run in them as they outscored Central Penn 18-5 over the next 2:50 as a Demiel layup with 31 seconds left got the Builders to 105-99.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Jay Melendez was the leading scorer for the Builders with 23 points and a career-best 19 rebounds to lead four in double figures.
• Joining him in double figures was Walton with 18 points and a career-best 12 rebounds.  His 18 points tied his career-high set twice this year against Southern Virginia and Delaware Valley.
• Perry had career-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds, while Ferebee nearly had a double-double with 14 points and nine assists.
• As a team, the Builders were 37-of-111 from the floor (33.3%), 5-of-27 from 3-point range (18.5%) and 20-of-26 from the foul line (76.9%).  The Builders out-rebounded the Knights 66-54 including a 34-11 advantage on the offensive boards.
• Central Penn was paced by Dorsey with 29 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots.  Stanten added 27 points going 13-of-14 from the floor.  Bryan Rivera had 12 points, while Andre Batte recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists.
• The Knights were 41-of-72 from the floor (56.9%), 5-of-17 from 3-point range (29.4%) and 22-of-43 from the foul line (51.2%).

RECORD BOOK ERASING

• The 111 field goals attempted set a school single-game record surpassing the 92 set against Southern Maine CC on Nov. 16, 2008.
• The 66 rebounds was the second most in a game only behind the record 68 against Berkeley College (NJ) on Feb. 26, 2011.
• Melendez with his 19 rebounds equals the fifth most in a game in the last 30 years for the men's team.
