Builders Drop Home Opener to Chowan

The Apprentice School men's basketball suffered a 72-62 defeat in their home opener against Chowan. The Builders trailed by 12 points at halftime but could not get any closer than five points in the second half as Chowan pulled away to clinch a season sweep. Chowan won a 94-74 contest earlier in the season.

ON THE COURT:

  • Cold shooting hurt the Builders offensively as they shot 29% from the field and 22% from behind the three-point line. The Builders also shot 57% (13-for-23) from the charity stripe.
  • Romello Anderson scored a game-high 19 points on 9-for-22 shooting. He also pulled in nine rebounds, falling just shy of a double-double.
  • William Wilcox and Jalen Warren each added ten points for the Builders.
  • Chowan was led by Robert Grubbs, who had a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds.
  • The Builders forced 23 turnovers and scored 17 points off the turnovers.
  • Chowan had 15 blocks on the game with Dino Muminovic having seven of them.

The men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Virginia State for a 6 p.m. first tip. The Builders will return back home in January as they host the MLK Tournament at the Apprentice Athletic Center.
