Builders Drop Shootout with Virginia Wesleyan 114-86

Romello Anderson scored 37 points but the Builders men's basketball team dropped a shootout against Virginia Wesleyan 114-86 on Monday evening. After a recent trend of cold shooting, the Builders found success by shooting 42% from the field and 53% from behind the arc but the defense could not hold the Marlins who shot 43% from the field but made 17 three-pointers.

ON THE COURT:

  • Romello Anderson scored a game-high 37 points, which is the most since Tevin Anderson scored 37 against Valor Christian in the 2011-2012 season.
  • Anderson was 11-for-23 from the floor and was 12-for-14 at the charity stripe. He also added 11 rebounds for a double-double. 
  • Jalen Ruffin added 13 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
  • Drew Walton added 10 points and was also one rebound shy of a double-double.
  • Brandon Joyner contributed 11 points from the floor.
  • Virginia Wesleyan had seven players score in double figures with Keijon Honore scoring a team-high 22 points.
  • The Marlins out-rebounded the Builders 61-43 and had 26 second-chance points.

The Builders return to action this weekend with a pair of road matchups. The Apprentice School plays Bluefield College on Saturday at 4 p.m. and then plays Bluefield State at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
