Builders Hold off Owls 109-107

SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Apprentice School men's basketball team had four players score in double-figures as they edged Warren Wilson in overtime 109-107 on Sunday afternoon.

ON THE COURT:

The Builders held a 17-point lead over the Owls early in the first half before the Owls closed the gap to one at the break. The Builders shot 53% from the floor and was led by Marion Moore's 13 points and Bryant Fuller's 11 points. In a back and forth second half, the Builders took a two-point lead with a free throw by Corey Joyner with 30 seconds remaining. The Owls knotted the game at 91 apiece with a jumper by Justin Storr with 12 seconds remaining. The Builders had a last second opportunity for the game winner but it fell short. The Builders outscored the Owls 18-16 in the extra period to clinch the victory. 

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Marion Moore had a team-high 26 points on 11-for-19 shooting. He added 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
  • Drew Walton added 20 points and a game-high 18 rebounds for his third straight double-double. This was the third time this season that Walton had at least 20 points. 
  • Corey Joyner had 20 points with half of them coming at the free-throw line. He added eight rebounds and seven assists.
  • Bryant Fuller contributed 17 points including a trio of three-pointers.
  • The Builders held a 55-40 advantage on the boards and had 20 second-chance points.
  • The team collectively shot 48% from the floor and made seven three-pointers in the game.
  • The Builders went to the free-throw line a season high 47 times.

The Builders will face Randolph College on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats moved to 4-1 on the season after holding off Bridgewater for a 74-73 victory on Sunday afternoon.
