Builders Drop Contest to Bluefield State

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Apprentice School men's basketball fell to Bluefield State 82-67 on Saturday afternoon.

ON THE COURT: 

The Builders were neck and neck with the Big Blues for the majority of the first half. After a layup by Marion Moore brought the Builders within one, 25-24 with about five and a half minutes remaining, the Big Blues ended the half on a 17-2 run to take a commanding 42-26 lead at the break. The Builders shot 33% from the floor while the Big Blues shot 49% from the field. They also forced 12 turnovers and converted them into 14 points to help take a lead at the break. The Builders fought in the second half to cut the lead to single digits including a stretch of 11 consecutive points scored by Marion Moore. Bluefield State forced a few turnovers and pushed the lead back to double-digits and cruised the rest of the way for the victory.


BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Marion Moore led all scorers with 27 points. He was 9-for-15 from the floor in 37 minutes of play.
  • Brandon Joyner added 14 points while his little brother Corey Joyner added 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
  • Drew Walton fell shy of a double-double with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
  • The Big Blues held a 40-36 edge in rebounds and had a 19-12 advantage in second chance opportunities.
  • The Builders turned the ball over 20 times which led to 29 points for the Big Blues.
  • Bluefield State was led by Marcus Neal with 24 points and Korey Williams, who had 21 points.
