Builders Pull Away Late 91-79

The Apprentice School men's basketball team pulled away late to capture their third straight victory with a 91-79 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Tuesday evening.

The Builders had six players score in double figures with Drew Walton leading the way with 18 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Corey Joyner added a double-double with 12 points and dished out 11 assists. Caleb Mielewski came off the bench and added 16 points while Vershawn Eley contributed 15 points off the bench. Brandon Joyner added a trio of three-pointers en route to his 14 points and Marion Moore scored 12 points as the Builders moved to 5-1 in conference play.

In a back and forth affair, the Mustangs held a slim three point lead at the break with a 46-43 edge. Both teams shot over 50% with the Mustangs converting six three-pointers in the first stanza. The back and forth affair continued midway through the second half before the Builders took control of the momentum with a Brandon Joyner three to give the Builders a four point lead with 7:31 remaining. The Builders scored seven straight points to push their lead into double figures before a Mustangs free throw broke the drought. THe Apprentice School kept the pressure and cruised the rest of the way to complete the season sweep over the Mustangs.

The Builders return to action on Saturday as they host Johnson & Wales as part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. for the women's basketball game followed by the men's basketball game at 4 p.m.
