Men's Basketball Falls on Senior Day

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Apprentice School men's basketball team fell to Clinton College 82-72 on Senior Day at the Apprentice Athletic Center.

Midway through the first half, Clinton went on an 8-0 run to provide themselves with a nine-point cushion with 8:30 remaining in the first half. After a layup by Caleb Mielewski broke the drought with a layup, the Bears pushed their lead to 12 points. The Builders responded with an 11-0 run which included three-pointers by Vershawn Eley and Brandon Joyner. The Bears kept the Builders at bay to cling onto a three-point lead at the break. Marion Moore led the Builders with nine points off the bench in the first half.

Coming out of the break, the teams traded baskets with the Bears never trailing in the second half as they handed the Builders their second straight loss to end the season.

ON THE COURT:

  • Marion Moore led the Builders with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Drew Walton added a double-double with an 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Corey Joyner flirted with a triple-double by contributing 11 points, dishing out eight assists and grabbing seven boards.
  • The Builders shot 36% from the floor while the Bears were 51% from the field.
  • Clinton held the advantage in the paint with 56 points to Apprentice School's 36.
  • Cameron Shannon and Anthony Williams led Clinton with 22 points each.

 

The Builders return to action on Tuesday, February 25th as they host the EMAC Quarterfinal. The opponent and time for the game is to be determined.
