Golf Team Sets School Record Round In Builder Fall Invitational

HAMPTON, Va. -- The Apprentice School golf team shot a school record round of 285 on Friday and finished second out of five teams in the Apprentice School Fall Invitational at The Woodlands in Hampton.

Christopher Newport University B team won the event with a 282 round, followed by Apprentice School, Virginia Wesleyan (301), Chowan University (303) and Chowan University B (324).

The 285 bettered the previous low team round of 288 shot on Sept. 28, 2007 in a dual match with Southern Virginia University.  That was only the third round of sub-300 golf for the Builders since the 1994-95 season.

Seniors Daniel Campbell and Wade Traynham were the low men for the team on Friday with even-par 69 to finish in a tie for fourth place.  Junior Kyle Radcliff was next at 73 to finish in a tie for ninth, while freshman Les White shot a 74 to finish in a tie for 12th in the 30-player field.

Apprentice School will now participate in the Hampden-Sydney Invitational on Sept 27-28 in Farmville, Va.
